As my patterns are designed as pieces of art to be hung on a wall they need to be visually strong so they make sense when viewed from a distance. I like to use as much contrast in my colour choices as I can so that all elements of the design are clear. If two colours sitting next to each other are too similar then the overall pattern won't be clear.
Just before I designed this pattern Appletons brought out a new range of Neon colours so I had to try and use some of them. I chose green and orange from the Cool Neon range, added a bright kingfisher blue and contrasted those colours with a light background of white and cream vertical stripes. The linear diamond pattern that links the shapes together is stitched in black.
