My name is Judith Drew. I live in the historic village of Wingerworth in North East Derbyshire on the edge of the Peak District.

I'm married with two grown up children, one cat and a large garden. I graduated in 1986 with a degree in Multi Disciplinary Design from Bradford School of Art.

I specialise in patterns with long, or straight, stitches that run horizontally on the canvas. My inspiration for this type of stitching came from a vintage framed long stitch canvas of a landscape that I found in an antique shop. I was first attracted by the simplicity of the design and the clear definition between the ‘blocks’ of colours. Secondly I was intrigued by the extra linear effects created by the ‘spaces’ between the stitches. I wanted to create patterns that used these ‘spaces’ as an integral element of the design.

Often in our homes we overlook some of the awkward narrow spaces on our walls, such as between two doors or windows, or next to a cabinet or a light switch. I have many of those areas in my 1970’s bungalow so creating long, narrow, wall hangings in colourful geometric patterns was the obvious thing for me to design.
